UPDATE 2:45 P.M. MONDAY: B.C. Highway Patrol Sgt. Patrick Davies says the pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle earlier today in Agassiz remains in critical condition, but the incident is not believed to be criminal in nature at this point.

“The driver of the responsible vehicle did stop, but did not see what they had hit,” Sgt. Davies told Fraser Valley Today in a statement. “They proceeded to their destination, and when they heard about the collision on the news, they contacted police immediately.”

Sgt. Davies says that at this time, this does not appear to be a criminal matter.

“Darkness, weather, and the dark clothing worn by the injured pedestrian appear to be factors,” Sgt. Davies said.

ICARS has conducted their on-scene examination, and the roadway has reopened. The file remains under investigation by BCHP Chilliwack personnel.

UPDATE 12:30 P.M. MONDAY: A Facebook commenter named Nancy Murphy says her niece was the pedestrian who was struck on Highway 9 and MacKay Crescent Monday morning in what was originally believed to be a hit and run.

“My nephew Gotchie was on site,” Murphy said. “Please look out for front end debris. He said debris everywhere. Please turn yourself in. They hit my niece. She is critical (tearful emoji).”
