Mar 19, 2025 | 11:02 AM

RICHMOND — There has been another overpass struck by a commercial truck in the Lower Mainland.

According to the BC Highway Patrol, the Blundell Road overpass along Highway 99 in Richmond was struck Wednesday (Mar. 19) morning at 9:45.

BC Highway Patrol RCMP officers are working with Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) officials to investigate the collision, which has led to major traffic disruptions. Authorities say the commercial tractor-trailer unit involved in the collision was carrying a prefabricated home.

“A pilot vehicle that was following the tractor-trailer was damaged when the over-height load of lumber fell off the trailer and hit the pilot vehicle’s windshield,” says Corporal Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol. “The tractor-trailer stopped at the scene. The driver and the company involved will be investigated.”

According to the CVSE, recent regulatory changes include new and higher fines for overpass strikes, as well as measures to hold carriers and drivers accountable for the safe movement of goods along provincial highways.

RCMP say there were no injuries in the incident and no obvious damage to the overpass, however, inspectors will be examining it closer.
