Chilliwack SPCA calls for pet food bank donations

CHILLIWACK — Stock at the BC SPCA pet food bank in Chilliwack is quickly flying off the shelves– and the center needs more donations fast.

In a social media post on Saturday (Mar. 15), the organization said all the animals under its care are taken care of, but community demand is rising.

“Maybe it’s a sign of the times, or perhaps it’s an increased awareness of the services we provide, but our Pet Food Bank is in critical need of refilling,” wrote the Chilliwack SPCA.

Dry cat food is in especially high need, but the center will accept any and all brands.

The BC SPCA has seen significant increases in provincial pet food bank needs since it first launched in March 2020. By 2024, the program had provided 59,354 kg of dry pet food and 46,760 cans of wet food, which would amount to roughly a week’s worth of food to nearly 25,000 pets in the community.
