CHILLIWACK — The Chilliwack Fire Department juggled two fires early afternoon (Mar. 9), with both incidents starting less than an hour apart from each other.

At around 12:40 p.m., approximately 31 firefighters from three firehalls responded to the scene in the 46000 block of Yale Road and saw smoke billowing from a ground-floor apartment unit.

Hoses were laid across the roadway within 10 minutes, and the fire was quickly extinguished. Crews then overhauled the fire and helped vent smoke from the building. The fire did not get further than the affected unit.

Chilliwack Emergency Support Services volunteers responded to the scene and offered support to two displaced occupants.

The fire is under investigation by Chilliwack Fire Department officials.

Another call came in shortly after asking crews to help Chilliwack River Valley (CRV) firefighters put out an RV fire on Winona Road.

The dispatch reported that five trees, seven power lines and a nearby home were all being affected by the blaze. Fire engines from two Chilliwack firehalls attended.

That fire is now being investigated by the RCMP and Chilliwack River Valley Fire Department.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries reported at this time.
