CHILLIWACK — Central Community Church in Chilliwack will hold a candlelight vigil Friday night (Mar. 7) to remember a 3-year-old boy who tragically died Wednesday after being struck by a vehicle.

According to a social media post, the church says it will join with friends of the child’s parents, Laura and Zach, at the site of the tragic incident, Vedder Road and Petawawa Road, at 8 p.m. Friday night.

“We invite you to come, bring a candle, and gather as a sign of solidarity with the family, a deep desire to grieve with those who grieve, love and lift them up, and hold them up in prayer,” Central Community Church said.

The candlelight vigil won’t adhere to a program since it is not a celebration of life. Rather, the candlelight vigil will enable people to gather to support the family in the aftermath of the tragedy.

“This is a space for us to come together as a community and offer a prayer and a symbol of love,” Central Community Church said.

Flowers, stuffies, a cross, a printed message with children’s hand prints and other items have been placed in front of the Canada Education Park sign where the collision occurred.

A service will happen at a later date, Central Community Church noted in its Facebook post.
