Update: IHIT ID’s victim in shooting, says man is known to police

UPDATE: IHIT has identified the victim in Monday’s shooting in Surrey as 29-year-old Jaskaran Singh Minhas, in an effort to advance the investigation. Minhas was known to police and is believed to have connections to organized crime. Police have also confirmed the burned vehicle in Delta is connected to Monday’s shooting.

FRASER VALLEY — Surrey Police Service says a man has died after a reported shooting on 120 Street in Surrey.

According to a statement from SPS Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton, SPS frontline officers were dispatched on Monday evening, Mar. 3 at 5:25 p.m. for a reported shooting near the 7900 block of 120 Street in Surrey. SPS officers attended the area and found the driver of a vehicle who had suffered life-threatening injuries. Life-saving measures were initiated but the man died of his injuries at the scene.

Roughly 10 minutes later at approximately 5:35 p.m., Delta Police Department officers responded to calls of a vehicle fire in the area of 64 Avenue and Westview Drive, Delta. IGIT investigators have confirmed the burnt vehicle in Delta is the suspect vehicle involved in the shooting.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has now taken conduct of this investigation in what is Surrey’s first homicide of 2025.

Staff Sgt. Houghton says the investigation is in the early stages and IHIT is working in partnership with Surrey Police Service, RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit, and Delta Police Department officers to complete priority tasks.
