LANGLEY — A spokesperson for the Langley RCMP detachment has confirmed that a deceased person has been located inside a Langley home where an explosion occurred on Friday.

According to a statement from Langley RCMP Sgt. Zynal Sharoom, Mounties in Langley received a report of an explosion at a home in the 7300 block of 196 Street Friday, Feb. 28 at approximately 10:40 a.m. Police say investigators have remained on scene to carefully examine the scene.

Sgt. Sharoom says one person has been found dead inside the home. Police are working with B.C. Corners Service to identify the deceased individual.

“Preliminary examination of the scene has investigators focused on the cause of the explosion and fire which may be consistent with what is found at an illegal drug extraction labs,” Sgt. Sharoom said. “However, it may take time to reach a definitive conclusion, as a thorough investigation and expert analysis are required.”

As Fraser Valley Today reporter Alyssa Conti wrote Friday, police worked with first responders from Langley Fire and Emergency Health Services for about an hour into the blaze to close off the area and evacuate residents nearby.

“The house has collapsed and is gone, the neighbouring house was completely engulfed, and is done, ” said a witness who wishes to remain anonymous. “The house behind the original house has its wall facing the collapsed house damaged. I couldn’t tell if just the siding melted or if it’s worse than that.”

“The neighbour said that they heard an explosion, like a gas leak, and when they came outside, the house had already collapsed.”

Anyone with information about this incident who has not yet spoken with authorities is to contact the Langley RCMP and quote file 2025-6044.
