ABBOTSFORD — The Abby Cat Daddy is looking to grow its care– but it needs a little help getting there.

Despite its name, the group also serves communities in and around Abbotsford, Mission, and Chilliwack. To help with increasing need, a 50-50 raffle and an online silent auction are now live with more than $2,000 worth of items, including event tickets, artwork, kayaking vouchers and more. Funds from the auction will be allocated as follows:

  • 25 per cent to the Abby Cat Daddy’s TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) program
  • 25 per cent to current medical expenses
  • 50 per cent to the Abby Cat Daddy’s Thrift Store & Adoption Centre Fund

“We hope to have the store open by this summer in our efforts to become financially independent and increase our adoption capacity,” said Logan Bryan, founder of the Abby Cat Daddy.

The organization takes in an average of 50 cats at any given time through fosters. Bryan added that last year, they also trap-and-neutered 35 cats and issued 90 TNR vouchers.

“We also get asked for free spays and neuters daily, which currently we have not been able to do, but hope to be able to offer or even a further reduced cost than our current [low-cost] program with the help of grants in the near future.”

If left unchecked, stray cat populations can grow into entire colonies within two years. Cats become sexually mature between four and five months of age, and females usually produce between four and six kittens in their first year of life, up to three litters annually.

“It really depends on the number of females versus males and how many survive from each litter.”

Abby Cat Daddy’s foster pool may have struggled to keep up with the number of cat surrenders each week, but the group’s newly achieved charity status could provide some incentive for anyone looking to help financially. Donations are now tax-deductible, and auction participants can request tax receipts for their estimated value.

For bids and more information, you can visit the online auction site until next Saturday, March 15th, at 11:55 p.m. The 50-50 raffle will be open until the end of the month.
