Mission police investigate weapon-related incident on grade 7 class walk

MISSION — Mission RCMP says it is aware of an incident involving a grade 7 class and a man living in a tent earlier on Thursday (Feb. 27).

Police say the man reportedly showed a knife and made remarks at the students, who were on a class walk through the nature trails at Heritage Park. No one was injured, and the class went back to school.

After speaking with students, an officer learned that one kid threw a rock and hit the man’s tent, which led to him coming out with the knife.

“There is no indication that the man directly threatened any students or made any attempt to hurt them, although it was clearly a frightening situation for those who were involved,” said Mission RCMP in a news release.
