PEMBERTON — Homicide investigators have identified a 22-year-old B.C. woman who was found unresponsive last week in Pemberton in order to advance their investigation.

According to a statement from IHIT spokesperson Corporal Esther Tupper, Pemberton RCMP responded to a report of an unresponsive woman in the 7400 block of Prospect Street on Saturday, February 22 at about 10 a.m. First responders, including B.C. EHS paramedics, attended the location but the woman was pronounced deceased on scene.

In consultation with the B.C. Coroners Service, the woman’s death is considered suspicious, leading IHIT personnel to take conduct of the investigation.

IHIT says it is working closely in partnership with the Pemberton RCMP, the Squamish RCMP, the Whistler RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Service (IFIS), and the B.C. Coroners Service.

In order to advance the investigation, IHIT is identifying the deceased woman as 22-year-old Tabitha Peters of Pemberton. Initial evidence suggests this was an isolated incident with no ongoing risk to the public.

“We are in the beginning stages of our investigation,” said Cpl. Tupper. “We’re asking anyone with information to please come forward.”

IHIT is asking anyone with information regarding the investigation, to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
