Original story below from 8:54 a.m. Tuesday morning:

HOPE — The District of Hope says a rock slide occurred in the Richmond Hill area of Flood Hope Road Monday night, disrupting technical lines and posing a safety risk to motorists.

According to a statement from the municipality, district staff received an emergency call from the RCMP Monday night, Feb. 24, at about 10:30 p.m., concerning a rock slide. Once staff received the call, the District of Hope took immediate action by coordinating with the RCMP and local roads maintenance crews to take appropriate action. In accordance with safety protocols, Flood Hope Road was closed to prevent further danger to the public.

District staff say there are currently no reports of injuries, and the road is expected to remain closed until further assessment is conducted by the road crew in the morning.

“The safety of the public remains the top priority, and the District of Hope is committed to ensuring that all necessary actions are taken to resolve the situation,” the district said.

Barricades and safety signs have been installed, and the district plans further assessments with a thorough review from a geotechnical engineer.

Hope residents can call the District of Hope at 604-869-5671, or visit 325 Wallace Avenue for more information in-person.

The district says it wants to remind the public to exercise caution and respect road closures for their safety. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
