Rona+ store set to close only 14 months after opening in Abbotsford

Feb 23, 2025 | 9:31 AM

ABBOTSFORD — Closing sales and discount signs hang up on the walls of Rona+ as another home improvement store bites the dust on 1225 Sumas Way.

The lemon and blue banner replaced the Abbotsford Lowe’s south of Highway 1 only one year ago, on February 29, 2024. Now, the store is hoping to phase out some merchandise before it closes on May 1st.

“We have decided to close this store because it is underperforming, following a thorough analysis of our operations in the area,” wrote a Rona+ spokesperson to Fraser Valley Today. “Closing a store is never a decision we take lightly as we are fully aware of the impact it has on our associates and their families.”

Not all goods are on sale yet, but discounts are set to increase biweekly until the store packs up in two months.

Lowe’s is only the second longest-standing resident of the location so far. It replaced Target in 2016 when it bought the company’s leases out the year before. From 1995 to 2013, it was a Zeller’s.

CORRECTION: This article has been corrected to say Lowe’s is NOT the longest-standing resident of the location. The original paragraph is shown below.

Lowe’s has been the longest-standing resident of the location so far. It replaced Target in 2016 when it bought the company’s leases out the year before. Three years before that, it was a Zeller’s.
