ANOTHER E.R. SHUTDOWN

Doctor shortage prompts Delta hospital to temporarily suspend emergency services for second night in a row

Feb 23, 2025 | 5:30 PM

DELTA — Fraser Valley health authorities have now issued another service disruption at Delta Hospital Emergency Department– nearly 24 hours after the last announcement.

The interruption is set to start at 9:30 p.m. tonight (Feb. 23) until Monday, February 24th at 6:30 a.m.

Patients already in the emergency room before 9:30 can be seen by a physician before shifts end at 1:30 a.m.

Emergency-trained nurses will be on-site to re-direct patients with urgent needs to a neighbouring hospital, and/or support walk-ins who need basic first aid.

Anyone with a life-threatening emergency, such as chest pain, difficulty breathing or severe bleeding, should call 9-1-1 immediately to be transported to the nearest available and appropriate facility.

Fraser Health says area residents can still contact health care professionals from Fraser Health Virtual Care at 1-800-314-0999 to speak with a registered nurse from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Residents can also call 8-1-1 outside of those hours to speak with a health service navigator or a registered nurse.

Delta Hospital is now the second hospital to suspend emergency services this month. On February 15th, Mission Memorial Hospital also had to shut down temporarily due to doctor shortages.
