CHILLIWACK — The Chilliwack Rock Choir is ending its first season on a high note with a sold-out show at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre– and they’re already looking to get new pipes up on the stage.

“We’re looking for people to join us for the next season, which is going to be tons of fun,” said choir creator Nick La Riviere. “It’s a whole new batch of music.”

“It’s all arrangements that I’ve made just by listening very carefully to the recordings again and again and writing everything down.”

The new group will perform music by AC/DC, The Talking Heads, Fleetwood Mac, and many others. More singers are needed as not everyone from the roughly 125-person choir is expected to stay.

“I’m finding that a lot of people have summer plans, but we’ve got about 70 per cent of our previous season people who are for sure able to stay.”

The non-auditioned choir invites adult singers of all levels, even those with no experience with music or reading notations.

“We’re always looking for more basses,” he added. “That’s the voice where it’s always the hardest to find people, but right now, we have openings in all groups.”

La Riviere arranges music for all five rock choirs he started around mainland B.C. Andy Hillhouse directs the Chilliwack choir.

The new season is set to begin on April 28th and will be rehearsed every Monday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The mid-season performance will be at the Harrison Festival of the Arts on July 18th, followed by the final performance at The Chilliwack Cultural Centre Theatre on October 6th.

All proceeds from both seasons’ concerts are donated to the Chilliwack Community Services.

Registration is available on the Chilliwack Rock Choir website.
