Following an exhaustive investigation by police, an Abbotsford man has been charged for his alleged role in a multi-vehicle hit and run collision that sent a 25-year-old female pedestrian to hospital with serious injuries.

According to a statement from Coquitlam RCMP, two charges have been approved by the B.C. Prosecution Service against Gurdeep Singh Dhanoaa of Abbotsford and Chin Tung Cheung of Coquitlam for one count of fail to stop after accident causing bodily harm, under section 320.16(2) of the Criminal Code.

While on patrol on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 9:45 p.m., in the intersection of Pinetree Way and Guildford Way, Coquitlam RCMP officers located a lone 25-year-old female pedestrian suffering from serious injuries who was being assisted by a Good Samaritan. Police say it appeared the pedestrian had the right of way and was legally crossing the street, when they were struck by a vehicle. Within a short time, a second vehicle struck the victim who was by then unconscious on the ground. Neither vehicle remained at the scene. The victim remained in hospital for several days after the incident.

“The pedestrian victim continues to recover from this serious and senseless incident,” Coquitlam RCMP media relations officer Constable John Graham. “The Coquitlam RCMP implore drivers to actively watch for pedestrians and take the time and care required to safely navigate roadways. We also thank the Good Samaritan for tending to the victim and other witnesses who assisted with this complex investigation.”
