CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack football coach Ryk Piché says the Chilliwack community is showing strong support for the newly formed Athletes Lab U19 7-on-7 football program.

Led by Piché, the former G.W. Graham varsity head coach and current Valley Huskers associate coach, the recently established program provides young athletes with high-level training and competitive opportunities in a 7-on-7 football format, preparing them for the next level of play.

A key supporter of the upstart initiative is Mike Feaver, owner of Kemano Drilling and Blasting and father of former G.W. Graham standout quarterback Lucas Feaver, who now plays at the University of Alberta. Piché previously coached Feaver at the high school level in Chilliwack, solidifying the deep-rooted connections that continue to strengthen the local football community.

The team consists of talented athletes from across the Fraser Valley, representing schools such as Abbotsford Senior, Mission Secondary, Robert Bateman, Sardis Secondary, and G.W. Graham. This diverse roster showcases the growing interest and demand for elite football training in the region.

In honor of Chilliwack’s rich football history, The Athletes Lab operates under the mascot “Greyhawks,” paying tribute to the old Chilliwack community program. This nod to the past connects the present generation of athletes with the legacy of those who came before them. Metric Civil Contractors, Kirkwood Kitchens, and Chilliwack Ford have also pitched in, generously donating to the program to fund uniforms, gear, balls, and other essential equipment. Their contributions ensure the Athletes Lab U19 7v7 team is poised and well equipped for success.

This past weekend, the team played its first games against University of Manitoba player Carter Dallas, who reached out to Piché to help prepare the young athletes for upcoming competition. The Greyhawks proved to be a force, winning two out of three games against their older and more experienced opponents. The event drew a crowd of 70 spectators, including former and current Chilliwack players, creating an electric atmosphere. The Chilliwack Giants also provided strong support, further demonstrating the community’s investment in developing local football talent.

“It really resonated with me this weekend, to see the power of sport just connecting families and people again,”

A major strength of the program is its coaching staff — all of whom are current CJFL coaches with the Valley Huskers. Their expertise provides the players with a collegiate-level training environment, bridging the gap between high school and post-secondary football.

The Lab will be traveling to Delta this upcoming weekend to take on Northwest Elite on Sunday at 12 noon. This matchup will be another important test as the team continues to build chemistry and refine their skills against top-tier competition.
