Canadian Chamber ranks Abbotsford-Mission as most tariff-exposed city in British Columbia
ABBOTSFORD — A new report from the Canadian Chamber of Commerce has ranked 41 census metropolitan areas on their vulnerability to U.S. tariffs– and Abbotsford-Mission trumps the rest of B.C. at 15th place in the country.
According to the Chamber, 330 exporters trade from Abbotsford to the United States, and 90.7 per cent of the border city’s total goods are typically bound for its southern neighbour.
Last month’s economic assessment from the B.C. government said the province will see its most considerable export losses from the natural resource sector and associated manufacturing. With the City’s economic strengths relying on both of these, the Chamber has given it a score of 7.6 per cent on the tariff exposure index.
Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce CEO Alex Mitchell stated: “Abbotsford is home to a vibrant manufacturing sector that is deeply integrated with American partners and customers. We are also the agricultural capital of Canada with food exports that end up on the tables of American families.”
