B.C. artists set to perform Gordon Lightfoot tribute tour in Chilliwack

CHILLIWACK — Two songwriters are asking you to Sit Down Young Stranger, and listen to a night of Gordon Lightfoot’s legacy at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre this spring.

Dylan Stone and Oliver Swain are long-time music colleagues with decades of combined experience and accolades in their respective acts at the Junos, Western Canadian Music Awards and Canadian Folk Music Awards.

Lightfoot’s music brought them together shortly after his passing in May 2023.

“We’re both singer-songwriters ourselves, we’re both Canadian, we both love his music,” said Stone. “So the music itself is really close to us… and we’re also just big Gordon Lightfoot fans.”

The pair then recruited a group of friends and musical guests, put them in a band, and paid tribute at a successful, one-time show back in June 2023. Nearly two years later, the troupe has performed more than a dozen times—and they’ll continue to Stay Loose if people are still showing their support.

“It’s hard to foresee doing it way down the line, but as long as we’re still getting a good crowd response and people want to hear Gordon’s music, we’ll go out and do it.”

The Vancouver-based pair have tried to keep the shows local to B.C., in places where people fondly remember the Sundown singer.

“We felt like Chilliwack is sort of like heartland country, so people will appreciate his music.”

The Legacy of Lightfoot comes to Chilliwack on March 29, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available on the Chilliwack Cultural Centre website.
