One dead, one arrested in early morning collision on Abbotsford road

CHILLIWACK — Police are now investigating a crash that resulted in the death of an Abbotsford man early Sunday morning (Feb. 9).

At 7:54 a.m., Abbotsford police responded to reports of a collision in the 30000 block of Harris Road. Police say a white Dodge pickup truck struck a pedestrian and sheared off a power pole, causing significant front-end damage to the vehicle.

Despite immediate efforts by civilians and first responders, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The driver remained and was arrested for impaired driving by members of the Traffic Enforcement Unit.

Members of the AbbyPD Major Crime Unit, along with the Integrated Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Service (ICARS), are currently at the scene to gather evidence from the collision.

Since the investigation is in its early stages, a section of Harris Road between Mt Lehman Road and Ross Road, remains closed as of the early afternoon.
