FRASER VALLEY — Officers with a multi-agency task force in the Fraser Valley teamed up in late January to target drug trafficking, gang activities and organized crime during a 48-hour blitz in Langley.

According to a statement from Langley RCMP Sgt. Zynal Sharoom, Langley RCMP’s Special Response Team joined forces with the Community Response Unit and Gang Enforcement Team of Surrey Police, Metro Vancouver Transit Police and Integrated Police Dog Services as part of a joint enforcement project in Langley on Thursday and Friday, Jan. 30-31.

The 48-hour enforcement initiative went after illicit activities within Langley. Officers participated in proactive enforcement measures consisting of vehicle traffic stops and targeted foot patrols in specific areas, resulting in in 50 arrests and detentions. Altogether, six vehicles were seized and towed and illicit drugs totaling approximately $15,000 were removed from vehicles and persons who were involved in drug trafficking.

“We saw officers from different agencies unite under a common goal and the strength of their collaboration became the greatest weapon against organized crime,” Langley RCMP Inspector David Wise said. “The officers’ expertise and in-depth knowledge of drug trafficking enabled them to successfully locate the illicit drugs that were concealed in a hidden compartment during a vehicle stop.”

Police say all individuals arrested have been released pending further investigation.

The Langley RCMP extended thanks to partners for supporting this project.
