LANGLEY — A former football player who led the Langley Rams to a Canadian Bowl appearance over a decade ago and rose through the ranks to become its head coach has left the junior football organization after two years at the helm.

According to a statement from the board of directors, the Langley Rams announced Tuesday (Feb. 4) that it has parted ways with Coach Jordan McCarty.

The Rams acknowledged McCarty’s extensive time with the club in its statement of gratitude.

“The Rams would like to thank Coach McCarty for his past 2 seasons as head coach, and for all his passion, work and dedication as a player and coach in the Rams organization over the past decade,” the Rams said. “Thank you Jordan, and we wish you all the best in your future endeavours!”

In its place, the team announced Wednesday morning that it has hired Cole Barron, the team’s 2024 defensive coordinator, as its new head coach.

“We’re excited to have Cole in this role as we feel his strong leadership abilities, relentless work ethic and winning mentality will be an asset to the club moving forward,” the Rams said. “Cole is a 2021 Canadian Bowl Champion, perennial all star and former defensive coordinator in 2024 with the Rams. Welcome Cole!”

McCarty had played an instrumental role as the team’s quarterback in leading the Rams to a Canadian Bowl appearance in 2014. He later served as the team’s quarterback coach during which time the club won the 2021 Canadian Bowl championship.

According to a statement at the time of his head coach hiring in early 2023, the Rams board of directors said McCarty’s love for the Rams organization had been evident due to his level of commitment and enthusiasm.

The Rams are part of the B.C. Football Conference in the Canadian Junior Football League. They play at McLeod Stadium in Langley.
