CHILLIWACK — The City of Chilliwack says it has finalized several upgrades to the fitness area and weight room at the Chilliwack Landing Leisure Centre on Corbould Street.

In a social media post, city staff say the recreation centre upgrades began in August 2024 by replacing the old strength machines with newly acquired equipment.

The City has also improved the user experience at the rec centre by adding new cardio machines (e.g., treadmills or ellipticals) and upgrading the warm-up and cool down areas.

At the end of December, the City completed the upgrades with three new large-scale pieces of weight room equipment.

The improvements could signal additional interest in the two rec centres, which are managed and operated by the YMCA.

There is an abundance of fitness outlets for Chilliwack residents in what can be considered a crowded market. In addition to the two municipal recreation centres, there is also Trevor Linden’s Club 16, Bob Chan-Kent Family YMCA on Hocking Avenue, Snap Fitness, Planet Fitness, Anytime Fitness, Fit for Change, CrossFit Chilliwack, Mamba Cycle, and other mom-and-pop fitness outlets, some of which operate out of homes or garages.
