CHILLIWACK — The number of tickets issued by Chilliwack bylaw enforcement staff more than doubled in 2024 compared to the previous year, reflecting a steady increase in calls for service.

According to the draft minutes of the Public Safety Advisory Committee from January 15, Garrett Schipper, the deputy director of development and regulatory enforcement for the City of Chilliwack, told the committee there were 740 tickets issued in 2024, a significant increase over the 287 tickets issued in 2023.

Calls for bylaw service saw a steady uptick in 2024 (3,176) versus 2023 (2,572), an increase of 23.4 per cent.

Schipper told the committee bylaw staff continue to be very busy. As a result, Chilliwack councillors have approved the hiring of another bylaw officer that will primarily focus on vacant homes.
