CHILLIWACK — FVRD board members are set to consider a bylaw amendment that would boost the pay of firefighters assigned to the rural Chilliwack River Valley Fire Department.

According to the text of item 10.1 on this Thursday’s meeting agenda, board members could give first, second and third reading to a bylaw amendment that would see CRVFD firefighter remuneration boosted over the next three years.

In conjunction with the 2025-2029 financial plan process, Director Patti MacAhonic, who represents Chilliwack River Valley on the board, provided direction to staff that remuneration rates be increased over a three-year period for the Chilliwack River Valley Volunteer Fire Department in Electoral Area E. Draft bylaw 1764, 2025 would remove a previous bylaw and replace it with new remuneration rates.

If the bylaw amendment passes all three readings, the fire chief of Chilliwack River Valley Fire Department would garner a $2,500 yearly honorarium in 2025 and 2026 before receiving a boost to $3,000 in 2027. The deputy or assistant fire chief would receive a $1,000 stipend in 2025 and 2026 before seeing an increase of $1,500 to $2,500 in 2027. The training officer would receive $750/year in 2025 and $1,250/year in 2027. Captain honorariums would increase from $500/year in 2025 to $1,250/year in 2027.
