ABBOTSFORD — The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIO) is now looking into the early Friday (Jan. 24) crash along Highway 11 in Abbotsford.

At about 12:30 a.m., Abbotsford police tried to stop a Ford Mustang in Mission for a Motor Vehicle Act violation. The driver failed to stop, and was then reported to continue southbound towards Mission Bridge.

The suspect’s vehicle crashed head-on with a civilian Hyundai Elantra on the bridge. Both drivers were taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The IIO was notified shortly after the incident and has since launched an investigation. Initial steps will confirm if the injuries meet the threshold of serious harm, as defined by the Police Act, and what connection, if any, police action or inaction may have played in the collision.
