CHILLIWACK — Cloverdale Paint on Luckakuck Way in Chilliwack will open a new location in February after it was significantly damaged by a structure fire earlier this month.

According to a social media post from the company, Cloverdale Paint says its Chilliwack store experienced a fire incident that resulted in a closure, but nobody was harmed or injured by the fire.

“A few weeks ago, our location experienced a fire incident that caused a closure. We are relieved to share that no persons were harmed during the incident,” Cloverdale Paint. “We would like to thank the local community and our customers for the unending support during this situation while we continue to work with local fire departments and nearby businesses to investigate further.”

In the interim, Cloverdale Paint says it will open a temporary location in Chilliwack in February, but did not elaborate on the exact location.

“Please follow us on social media to stay tuned on exact dates and location,” Cloverdale Paint said.

Chilliwack Assistant Fire Chief Chris Wilson said 50 firefighters from five halls responded to a fire that erupted at Cloverdale Paint just before midnight on Tuesday evening, January 7. Responding fire crews discovered a large single-story paint store with smoke and flames visible. Fire crews accessed the building and operated fans to disperse a large amount of smoke emanating from the structure to enhance safety and visibility for firefighters. Crews were on scene for an estimated three to four hours, Assistant Fire Chief Wilson said, and conducted overhaul operations with thermal imaging cameras, thereby enabling crews to locate, access and extinguish small areas of fire that had spread into the roof structure of the building.

RCMP vehicles attended the scene for several hours after the fire to secure the store and the investigation.

Go Bananas, an indoor playground facility operating next door to Cloverdale Paint, sustained damage as a result of the fire and has not reopened. It posted on Facebook this past Sunday, January 19, that it will be closed until further notice due to the fire at Cloverdale Paint and has had to cancel all parties and refund deposits.
