CHILLIWACK — A spokesperson for the Chilliwack RCMP Detachment says a suspect is in custody after a police incident Sunday morning in Fairfield Island.

Social media lit up Sunday morning after several people reported hearing and seeing a multitude of RCMP vehicles at about 6:30 a.m. in Chilliwack. One person on Facebook, Ema Ebesh, said there was a heavy police presence on Hope River Road between Menzies Street and Kent Road.

Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Corporal Teresa Parsons told Fraser Valley Today in an email Monday morning (Jan. 20) that police responded to a report of an attempted break and enter at a residence in that area of Fairfield Island.

“A number of police officers attended and located and arrested a suspect. There were no injuries involved,” Cpl. Parsons said.

One person on Facebook, Grace Raffle, said her boyfriend’s mom’s house was attacked Sunday morning by a man screaming that he would kill them all, adding that the occupants of the house had never seen the male suspect before. When asked if everyone in the house was okay, Raffle said, “Yes, everyone’s okay, just shaken up.”

Raffle said the occupants of the house were sleeping when a man walked onto the property and started kicking the door in. A safety lock had been installed at the home for circumstances like this, Raffle said.
