CHILLIWACK — Getting paid to camp in the greater Chilliwack area isn’t an opportunity that avails itself everyday.

But that’s essentially what the B.C. government is looking for in advance of the 2025 camping season in the Chilliwack River Valley.

According to a Facebook post, Recreation Sites and Trails B.C. says it is looking for a couple that will manage a busy campground of 124 campsites just off Chilliwack Lake Road. Recreation Sites and Trails B.C., a division of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy, provides public recreation opportunities by developing, maintaining and managing a network of recreation sites and recreation trails throughout the province..

RSTBC says it is offering a business opportunity for a couple that wants to manage Tamihi West Campground, one of the major campsites in the Chilliwack River Valley that hosts a large and busy motorized staging area attached to the campground.

Training would begin in February followed by a seven-day work week from April 1 through to Thanksgiving in October. Duties consist of greeting campers, collecting revenue, cleaning and maintaining campsites and cleaning outhouses.

Prospective applicants are asked to contact Tom Blackbird, a district recreation officer for B.C. Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations, at Tom.Blackbird@gov.bc.ca.

Speaking of camping along Chilliwack Lake Road, A new camping reservation system has been instituted for several campgrounds in the Chilliwack River Valley, including Thurston Meadows. It is believed that partnership agreements are now in place with each individual campground in the CRV.

The couple that previously managed multiple sites in the CRV, Wayne and Pat Furness, have stepped away after 12 years. As a result, there’s now a new operator of Thurston Meadows who goes by the Facebook name of Krystal Marie. She says Thurston’s website/reservation system (www.campchilliwackvalley.ca) will go live on Saturday, February 1 at 7 a.m. Further information about Thurston Meadows can be found on Facebook in the Camp Chilliwack Valley group.
