Excavator strikes gas line, leading to significant gas leak in Agassiz

AGASSIZ — Firefighters in Agassiz have been dispatched to the 5300 block of McCallum Road Wednesday morning after an excavator struck a gas line, resulting in a significant gas leak.

According to scanner traffic, firefighters were called to McCallum Road at approximately 10:30 a.m. not long after construction personnel struck a gas line.

The incident occurred in a rural area northwest of Agassiz, down the road from Farmhouse Natural Cheeses.

An Agassiz firefighter told dispatch at 10:46 a.m. that a one-inch high-pressure gas line high pressure was struck at the edge of McCallum Road.
