ABBOTSFORD. – As a new year begins, Abbotsford police are renewing efforts to combat gang activity in the community, building on significant progress made last year.

In 2024, the AbbyPD Gang Crime Unit conducted over 600 bar checks and 800 curfew compliance checks, actively targeting gang associates and individuals involved in criminal activities. Their efforts resulted in the seizure of more than $120,000 in assets under civil forfeiture, contributing to public safety and community well-being.

According to RCMP only a handful of gangs operated in British Columbia in the 1980 decade. However, that figure has surged to 188 criminal groups competing for control of the province’s illicit markets in 2024.
