ABBOTSFORD — Police in Abbotsford say two suspects have been arrested and remain in custody Wednesday (Jan. 8) after a high-risk incident unfolded near the Lonzo Road shelter.

According to a social media post from police, AbbyPD patrol officers tried to stop a suspicious vehicle just after 3 p.m. Wednesday that police believed was linked to the drug trade. Police say the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed and crashed through a fence. Officers did not pursue the vehicle because of reckless driving exhibited by the suspect vehicle.

Shortly thereafter, police say the suspect vehicle collided with two civilian cars at the intersection of Vedder Way and Marshall Road. Occupants of the civilian vehicles were uninjured, while the two occupants of the suspect vehicle fled on foot. Police say additional frontline officers from certain AbbyPD support sections were dispatched to assist in addition to a police K9 officer.

Both suspects were located and arrested and remain in police custody as of Wednesday afternoon. Police have confirmed the suspect vehicle is a stolen vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed an unidentified firearm inside.

“We appreciate the public’s patience during the police response that caused traffic delays in the area,” AbbyPD said.

An image shared by AbbyPD shows the suspect vehicle heavily damaged after crashing into two vehicles at Vedder Way and Marshall Road. The suspect vehicle lost its front bumper and other adjoining parts.
