UPDATE 3:40 P.M. WEDNESDAY: Go Bananas, an indoor play facility for younger kids located next door to Cloverdale Paint on Luckakuck Way, posted on Facebook that it is closed until further notice due to the overnight fire. A Chilliwack resident posted on social media that her child’s birthday party has been canceled because Go Bananas doesn’t have access to its premises to establish a reopening date. In response to a statement of support from a Chilliwack resident, Go Bananas said, “We sure will reopen but don’t know when. We can not wait to see you all again.”

UPDATE 10 A.M., WEDNESDAY: Chilliwack Assistant Fire Chief Chris Wilson says 50 firefighters from five halls responded to the report of a fire at Cloverdale Paint overnight. Responding fire crews discovered a large single-story paint store with smoke and flames visible. Fire crews accessed the building and operated fans to disperse a large amount of smoke emanating from the structure to enhance safety and visibility for firefighters.

Firefighters subsequently entered and performed a coordinated interior attack to successfully suppress the fire. Crews were on scene for an estimated three to four hours, Assistant Fire Chief Wilson said, and conducted overhaul operations with thermal imaging cameras, thereby enabling crews to locate, access and extinguish small areas of fire that had spread into the roof structure of the building.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries reported during the fire, which is under investigation by Chilliwack Fire Dept. personnel.

Firefighters reportedly cut a hole in the roof during their firefighting attack. Go Bananas, an indoor playground facility operating next door to Cloverdale Paint, sustained damage as a result of the fire. A fire inspector is currently on scene at Cloverdale Paint as of 9:45 a.m. The building will need to be assessed to ensure it is structurally safe to enter.

If employees need to be shifted to other stores within the company, Cloverdale Paint has retail stores in Abbotsford and Mission.
