Cultus Lake reports uptick in incidents of theft ahead of Christmas

CHILLIWACK — Cultus Lake Park staff say they’ve identified a noticeable increase in theft ahead of Christmas, prompting the park to issue a reminder to residents on social media.

According to a social media post dated Wednesday night (Dec. 18), Cultus Lake Park Board personnel are reporting an increase in various types of theft over the past several weeks.

Park board staff say they plan to increase surveillance during the holiday season and are asking residents for their support by contacting the Upper Fraser Valley RCMP to report any suspicious activity.

To mitigate various types of theft, park board staff are recommending that Cultus Lake-area residents install motion-sensor lights around the perimeter of their property, since thieves prefer darker areas in which to operate.

Other suggestions to reducing incidents of theft and other crime include getting to know neighbours and communicating with them; minimizing visible possessions and other equipment around your home so that thieves aren’t enticed into stealing them; and securing your property by double checking that garage doors, car doors, windows and all house doors are locked.

Cultus Lake residents are urged to report any and all suspicious activity by contacting the Upper Fraser Valley RCMP Detachment at 604-792-4611.
