CHILLIWACK — The City of Chilliwack plans to take on a multitude of public projects in 2025, including the construction of three new parks, upgrade of four city parks, improvements to two municipal recreation centres, and several roadway projects.

Mayor Ken Popove touched on some of these improvements during his weekly “Ask the Mayor” segment on 89.5 JR Country Thursday morning with Morning host Glen Slingerland.

Three new parks will come on board in 2025, including Crestwood Park, Walker Creek and Nixon Road Park. Upgrades are slated for Chehalis Park in Garrison, Webster Park in Webster’s Landing south of Keith Wilson Road, the Cheam spray park in Garrison, and Jinkerson Park in Promontory.

Speaking of parks and public facilities, Exhibition Field will see its artificial turf replaced.

The Landing Sports Centre will be refurbished with new lighting and a newly resurfaced concrete floor.

There are plans to replace the existing seating in the Chilliwack Cultural Centre Rotary Hall with accessible seating. On a related note, the city is working with the Rick Hanson Foundation to install automated doors at city facilities. The city plans to install new accessible washroom at Townsend Park turf field.

Just as multi-use pathways are under construction on Tyson Road, Watson Road is set to have capacity improvements and a multi-use path design build project begin in 2025. Knight Road will see a multi-use path from Chilliwack River Road to the Valley Rail Trail, featuring a flashing crosswalk and train signal at the Southern Rail crossing.

Prest Road will be widened in the final section of its project south to Bailey Road, including the roundabout at McGuire Road. Banford Road at McGuire Road will have its bridge replaced in 2025, the city anticipates.
