ABBOTSFORD — Abby Cat Daddy, a local feline organization with roots in the Fraser Valley, announced Monday (Dec. 16) it hopes to open a combined thrift store and cat adoption centre in Abbotsford next year.

According to a news release from Abby Cat Daddy spokesperson Logan Bryan, who is affiliated with The Veganist in Chilliwack, the innovative facility will be the first of its kind in the Lower Mainland, consolidating a thrift store with an adoption centre, designed to support the growing needs of homeless cats and their future families. The initiative has designated a goal of raising between $60,000 and $100,000 to construct a space that provides both a safe haven for cats in need and a sustainable revenue source to support the organization’s ongoing mission. The thrift store will generate funds to help cover operational costs, while the adoption centre will offer a welcoming environment for cats waiting for their forever homes.

Bryan says pet abandonment and restrictive rental policies are putting increased pressure on animal shelters across Canada, making this project even more value-added to the Fraser Valley.

“Over the past two years, rising costs of pet ownership/ companion animal husbandry—including veterinary care, pet food, and grooming services—have led many people to surrender their pets to already overcrowded shelters,” Bryan said.

Abby Cat Daddy’s new initiative aims to offer an invaluable solution to help alleviate these pressures by providing both immediate care and long-term support to cats in need.

“We are so thrilled to bring this vision to life,” said Bryan, founder of Abby Cat Daddy. “Not only will this project provide a safe, loving environment for cats in our community, but it will also create an opportunity for people to get involved in meaningful ways—whether through donations, volunteering, or simply spreading the word. The combined thrift store and adoption centre will be more than just a facility—it will serve as a central hub for the local community. A space where people can come together, shop for pre-loved items, and adopt their next furry family member, while knowing their support directly benefits local cats.”

Bryan says Abby Cat Daddy’s team will remain 100 per cent committed to responsible and impactful growth, ensuring that every dollar raised goes directly toward the creation of a safe and sustainable space for cats and the people who love them. The organization is currently soliciting donations to fund the project. Supporters can donate directly to the project fund via the Abby Cat Daddy website or visit https://www.zeffy.com/en-CA/fundraising/donate-to-help-us-build-our-adoption-centre-and-thrift-store

“We are so grateful for the continued support of our community,” Bryan added. “This project is a true team effort, and we can’t wait to see it come to life in 2025.”
