Cat adoption centre, thrift store set to open in Abbotsford in 2025
ABBOTSFORD — Abby Cat Daddy, a local feline organization with roots in the Fraser Valley, announced Monday (Dec. 16) it hopes to open a combined thrift store and cat adoption centre in Abbotsford next year.
According to a news release from Abby Cat Daddy spokesperson Logan Bryan, who is affiliated with The Veganist in Chilliwack, the innovative facility will be the first of its kind in the Lower Mainland, consolidating a thrift store with an adoption centre, designed to support the growing needs of homeless cats and their future families. The initiative has designated a goal of raising between $60,000 and $100,000 to construct a space that provides both a safe haven for cats in need and a sustainable revenue source to support the organization’s ongoing mission. The thrift store will generate funds to help cover operational costs, while the adoption centre will offer a welcoming environment for cats waiting for their forever homes.
Bryan says pet abandonment and restrictive rental policies are putting increased pressure on animal shelters across Canada, making this project even more value-added to the Fraser Valley.
“Over the past two years, rising costs of pet ownership/ companion animal husbandry—including veterinary care, pet food, and grooming services—have led many people to surrender their pets to already overcrowded shelters,” Bryan said.
