Heavy rain forecast for Chilliwack, Abbotsford starting Tuesday

CHILLIWACK — Environment Canada is forecasting heavy rain will arrive Tuesday in Chilliwack, Abbotsford, Agassiz and Mission.

According to an advisory from the national weather agency, between 50-70 millimeters of heavy rain is expected to hit the Fraser Valley starting Tuesday.

Environment Canada says a moisture-rich Pacific frontal system will bring rain to B.C.’s South Coast. Rain will encompass Metro Vancouver, west and central Fraser Valley communities and Howe Sound.

Rain will begin Tuesday near noon and will ease up on Wednesday morning once the system exits the region. High flows and localized flooding are possible, especially at lower elevations and in areas with poor drainage.

Environment Canada says heavy downpours can produce flash flooding and water pooling on roads.
