Squamish — A mudslide in the Lions Bay area, south of Squamish, has closed the Sea-to-Sky Highway, linking Vancouver to Whistler. The slide occurred late Saturday morning.

RCMP initially suggested the road could reopen by early Sunday morning. However, updated information indicates the road will remain closed until Sunday evening.

No injuries have been reported, according to emergency crews examining the large slide area.

DriveBC advises motorists traveling to the Lower Mainland to take a detour north along Highway 99 to Lillooet, then head south on Highway 12 to Lytton, and follow Highway 1 through the Fraser Canyon and Fraser Valley.

The RCMP says officers from Squamish, North Vancouver, and BC Highway Patrol, with assistance from West Vancouver Police, are responding to the incident.

To complicate matters, Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Highway 99 in the area of the slide. Up to 20 cm of snow is expected overnight Saturday.
