Hope Fire goes outside its service area to extinguish backcountry fire, 7 cats rescued from the area
PEERS CREEK FOREST SERVICE ROAD (HOPE)— Firefighters in Hope faced a challenging task Friday morning (Dec. 13) as they tackled a backcountry RV fire that would normally be considered outside of its coverage area.
Hope Fire Department says it was dispatched in the early morning hours Friday for the report of a recreational vehicle on fire on Peers Creek Forest Service Road east of Hope on Highway 5. Since initial reports indicated the RV may have been occupied, Hope Fire responded to the incident in what would normally be beyond its jurisdiction.
Responding firefighters discovered a fully engulfed RV on arrival with major extensions to nearby trees and two other vehicles. Hope Fire says all occupants were able to escape from the blaze, while seven cats were rescued from the area. Seven firefighters from three engines attended.
