CHILLIWACK — A Chilliwack restaurant serving Korean-style fried chicken just off Vedder Road in Sardis appears to have closed for good.

Kim’s Fried Chicken, a once-popular destination serving honey garlic chicken and soy garlic chicken at 4-5725 Vedder Road in the Vedder Village shopping centre, had a dark interior inside its restaurant Tuesday (Dec. 10) around noontime. All interior signage, front counters and refrigerated coolers used to sell soft drinks and other cold drinks have been removed. Its business line of 604-846-1212 indicated the restaurant could not be reached at the moment.

Its website, kimschicken.ca, had a 403 “forbidden” note on the landing page, meaning its website was temporarily scrubbed or unavailable.

On DoorDash, a message stated the following: “Kim’s Fried Chicken is not active. This restaurant you are trying to reach is not available on DoorDash right now.”

A Fraser Valley Today reporter visited the premises Tuesday around lunchtime and saw no one working inside the restaurant. Some of the kitchen equipment had been stripped, while customer booths still remained.

A female employee working at a tax preparation business next door said she heard a lot of banging about a week ago around the time of the restaurant’s possible closure. In the days after the restaurant’s apparent closure, a franchisee with at least two pizza locations in the Fraser Valley told this same female employee a pizza business would next occupy the shuttered suite.

Kim’s Fried Chicken registered a stellar score of 4.6 out of 5 stars among 407 Google reviews. Customers generally commended the restaurant for its fried chicken as well as beef pan-fried noodles and other delicacies.

The restaurant also offered japchae noodles, Korean signature dish bibimbap, and bulgogi.
