Long wait times reported across B.C. border crossings, including Sumas

SUMAS – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported longer-than-usual wait times at four major border crossings in B.C. as of midday Sunday.

Travellers heading south to Washington via the Sumas crossing in Abbotsford faced a wait time of approximately 70 minutes at 1 p.m., roughly double the average wait for a typical Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) stated that travellers entering British Columbia via Sumas experienced only a five-minute wait.

The Pacific Highway route to Blaine and Peace Arch to Blaine reported three-hour waits, nearly triple the usual 59-minute average crossing time. The Lynden crossing was somewhat better, with a wait of 50 minutes.

For those traveling northbound from the U.S. through the Pacific Highway, Aldergrove, and Douglas entry points, wait times were between five and ten minutes.

In a social media post Sunday afternoon, Drive BC advised travellers heading to the U.S. to consider using the Aldergrove and Sumas crossings as alternatives.
