Canada Post Strike disrupts FVHCF Holiday Mail Campaign, putting $140K in donations at risk

ABBOTSFORD – The agency that raises funds for the Fraser Health Authority says the ongoing postal strike has forced it to cancel a holiday mail campaign that typically generates a significant portion of its annual revenue.

The Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation (FVHCF) estimates about $140,000 in donations is at risk due to the suspension of its annual Christmas direct mail drive amid the Canada Post strike.

“This revenue is crucial in helping us purchase much-needed medical equipment for our hospitals, ensuring we can continue to provide high-quality care to our community,” FVHCF said in a mid-week statement.

The agency is urging potential donors to visit its website to contribute or to call directly in the hopes of minimizing losses from the affected campaign.

The strike is now entering its fourth week, with Canada Post and the union representing its workers still far from reaching a resolution, according to federal mediators.

This week, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers announced it had submitted new counter-proposals to the mediator in hopes of resuming talks, which Canada Post confirmed it is reviewing.

Calls for government intervention have been mounting from the business community, but so far, the government has declined to step in.

Key sticking points for the union include wage increases and a push to expand weekend delivery, with the two sides disagreeing over how to staff the expansion.

Donors wishing to support FVHCF initiatives can contribute through the foundation’s secure website or by calling 604-851-4890.
