ABBOTSFORD — Abbotsford PD says a 54-year-old driver remains in police custody after a rifle was observed inside a motorist’s truck during a vehicle stop overnight.

AbbyPD says its patrol officers saw an uninsured truck speeding along Gladwin Road in Abbotsford overnight, leading to a vehicle stop. Police saw a rifle inside the truck, prompting authorities to arrest the driver.

The driver was out on bail for prior firearms offences but remains in police custody Thursday morning pending a court bail hearing.

AbbyPD continues to document its high-profile traffic stops on social media. On Wednesday morning, police pulled over a 45-year-old man after the driver struggled to maintain its lane, only to find out the class 1 driver was on his way to work to drive a semi truck.

Police say one of their patrol officers observed a vehicle that could not stay within its lane at approximately 6 a.m. Wednesday morning. Police initiated a traffic stop to measure driver sobriety and discovered the man was allegedly impaired by alcohol. Shockingly, police say he was on his way to drive a semi truck.

The man received a 90-day driving suspension, and his passenger vehicle was impounded for 30 days. The vehicle he drove appeared to be a Mercedes SUV or station wagon.

Even worse, police say the man asked for leniency.

“Can you believe that he asked us to cut him a break?” AbbyPD wrote.
