CHILLIWACK — International House of Pancakes operated for years on the grounds of the Travelodge Hotel at 45466 Yale Road, just north of Highway 1, offering a central location for hungry diners in Chilliwack.

That all changed in May 2021 when the B.C. government announced it had purchased the Travelodge Hotel to provide over 80 supportive homes for unhoused people in Chilliwack. That announcement heralded the closure of IHOP on May 19, 2021, after an eight-year run in Chilliwack, which came as a surprise to the restaurant’s loyal customers.

But the restaurant known primarily for its pancakes is making a comeback in Chilliwack. According to an email from Dine Brands Global spokesperson Lauren Costabile, IHOP will open sometime in 2025 in Chilliwack.

“We can confirm that an IHOP will be opening in Chilliwack next year. However, exact dates and staffing details can be provided early next year as we get closer to the opening,” Costabile said in an email to Fraser Valley Today.

IHOP did not confirm the exact address of the new Chilliwack location. A Chilliwack resident who works in the heavy equipment rental delivery business told Fraser Valley Today that a coworker had a forklift delivered to a construction site bearing a customer name of IHOP on Eagle Landing Parkway in Chilliwack, believed to be the new location. However, Dine Brands Global has yet to confirm this.

The Chilliwack IHOP registered a 3.9 rating out of 5 stars among 1,134 Google reviews before it was shuttered.

When IHOP Fraser Valley announced it was closing for good in May 2021, the company paid tribute to a couple who were its first customers in 2013, and its final customers on its last day.

“Thank you Neil and Diane,” the Facebook post said. “Our first guests at our Chilliwack location in 2013. Today, they were officially our last guests. Thank you for all your support over the past 34 years at both our Abbotsford and Chilliwack locations! You will be missed. End of an era.”

The only other IHOP in the Fraser Valley is located on the Langley Bypass in Langley. The IHOP in Abbotsford closed in March 2020.

The next-nearest IHOP is across the border in Bellingham, Washington.
