Hope firefighters extinguish trailer fire near homeless encampment
HOPE — Firefighters in Hope were dispatched Tuesday morning (Dec. 3) just before 8 a.m. after a travel trailer went up in flames near a homeless encampment in the bush south of Highway 1 near exit 168 (Flood-Hope Road).
In a social media post, Hope Fire says it was paged for the report of smoke and flames in a wooded area south of the highway. On arrival, firefighters witnessed a travel trailer that had been engulfed by fire near an encampment. Access was limited to four-wheel drive, and the remaining firefighters were extinguished.
Firefighters say the trailer was not occupied at the time of the fire. There were no injuries as a result of the blaze.
The cause is not immediately known as RCMP has been tasked with leading the investigation.
