CHILLIWACK – Abbotsford Coun. Patricia Ross is returning to the post of Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) Board Chair.

Ross was elected to the position during a board meeting Thursday afternoon and had been serving as Vice-Chair since 2012.

She also previously held the Board Chair post between 2009 and 2011.

Ross replaces Chilliwack Coun. Jason Lum as FVRD Chair after he announced in late September he would be stepping down after eight years.

Popkum, Bridal Falls Director Bill Dickey was also in the running for the post.

In her acceptance speech, Ross thanked Lum for his “outstanding leadership” and stressed improvements in emergency preparedness and reducing the region’s environmental footprint as future priorities.

“I would like to thank each of you for your support,” Ross said after being elected. “My commitment to you will be open, supportive, and to always represent the FVRD in a professional and positive manner.”

Chris Kloot, a Chilliwack Councillor since 2014, takes over the Vice-Chair spot vacated by Ross.

District of Kent Mayor Sylvia Pranger and City of Mission Mayor Paul Horn will remain as Chair and Acting Chair, respectively, of the Fraser Valley Regional Hospital District Board.

Both were elected without a vote, due to being the only candidates for the positions.
