ABBOTSFORD – Police say they are investigating an incident in which a woman was “shaken up” after a “suspicious” ride in Abbotsford’s south end early Sunday morning.

Abbotsford Police Department (APD) spokesperson Sgt. Paul Walker says officers encountered the startled woman after responding to a call around 3:15 a.m. in the 32300 block of Huntingdon Road.

Walker says the woman accepted a ride from a man in a truck she didn’t know and told investigators that the driver made “unwanted advances.”

“At one point, he pulled his truck over in the area of the Huntingdon Road and Columbia Street intersection, which provided the female an opportunity to jump out of the truck and flee the area on foot seeking help,” Walker explained.

Investigators say the suspect is believed to be in his late 50s to early 60s, with short, salt-and-pepper hair, and wearing a blue and black plaid jacket.

The suspect vehicle is described as a smaller grey or silver truck.

The case is now in the hands of APD’s Major Crime Unit, which is seeking witnesses and dashcam footage.

Anyone who traveled through the area of Huntingdon Road and Columbia Street between 2:30 a.m. and 3:15 a.m. on Sunday is asked to call detectives at 604-859-5225.
