MISSION – Officials with the City of Mission are set to kick off the holiday season with the “Lighting of the Trees” at Centennial Park on Friday.

In a release, a spokesperson said the public is invited to “a small community ceremony” featuring live music from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The lights will shine every evening after the Nov. 29 kickoff and will remain lit until Jan. 3.

Buddy’s Holly Jolly Christmas

One of the city’s highlight holiday events will also take place next weekend with Buddy’s Holly Jolly Christmas on Dec. 1 at the Clarke Foundation Theatre on Prentis Avenue.

Zachary Stevenson, star of the hit musical The Buddy Holly Story, will host the Christmas concert, which features Chicago-based group The Lovettes.

The trio will perform a salute to female icons and girl groups of the 1950s and 1960s.

Holiday Magic Celebration

In mid-December, Santa Claus will host a North Pole-themed “Holiday Magic” community celebration at the Leisure Centre on Grande Street.

Free, family-friendly activities include ice skating, gymnasium “Reindeer Games,” and more.

The “Holiday Magic” celebration will take place on Dec. 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
