CHILLIWACK — A home in the 5600 block of Tyson Road isn’t the only major incident of unsightly premises that City of Chilliwack bylaw staff have been dealing with this year.

A home in the 46100 block of Princess Avenue closer to downtown Chilliwack has generated nearly a dozen bylaw complaints for its derelict appearance.

According to an email from City of Chilliwack spokesperson Jamie Leggatt, there have been 11 calls for service for this property this year for unsightliness, weed control, garbage, and people living in the RV. Leggatt has confirmed these calls for service are indeed bylaw complaints.

A Chilliwack resident shared several pictures of the derelict property with Fraser Valley Today on Monday, saying she suspects the property is being used for unlawful purposes. Bags of garbage are visible from the sidewalk around the property and on the back porch, a tattered fence has been discarded as debris, and an older RV is parked on the grass, presenting an unsightly premise.

The 3-bedroom, 1-bathroom home was built in 1908 on an 8,052-square foot lot, or about one-fifth of an acre. Its assessed value was $903,000 in 2023, but dropped nearly 13 per cent in value to $786,000 for its 2024 assessment.
