CHILLIWACK – A local athlete and entrepreneur will showcase his skills in the ring as he aims for a spot on Canada’s national boxing team.

Oliver Kladnik, 32, will bring his 14 years of competitive experience to the 85-kilogram male elite division at the 2024 Elite Boxing Nationals tournament in Sarnia, Ontario, this month.

“I’m honoured to represent British Columbia at the Elite Boxing Nationals,” Kladnik said after receiving his invitation from Boxing BC.

“This tournament is a crucial stepping stone for athletes aiming to compete on the world stage, and I’m excited to showcase the skills I’ve honed over my career.”

Kladnik’s career began as a teen in Toronto before relocating in 2019 to British Columbia, where he trained at both the Chilliwack and Abbotsford boxing clubs under head coach Dale Gatin.

He has fought 38 times in his career, both domestically and internationally, and operates his own private gym in Promontory.

The selection to Team BC follows a recent victory at the North American King of the Ring Tournament, where Kladnik claimed gold in the 80kg division.

The Elite Boxing Nationals runs from Nov. 19 to 23, bringing Canada’s top boxing talent together to compete for spots on the national team.
