Markets, events pop up across Abbotsford as holiday season ramps up

ABBOTSFORD – With holiday markets and events popping up across the Fraser Valley, Tourism Abbotsford says there are no fewer than three dozen high-profile gatherings for those seeking to be festive between now and Dec. 25.

A season of shopping, performances, and culinary excursions got underway Saturday with Mango Market’s Christmas Finale at the Gateway Community Church.

Three more markets at a museum and two other churches, as well as a couple of workshops, highlight holiday happenings in the coming week.

Here’s a look at just a few of the experiences coming up:

Mennonite Christmas Market – November 12th – 16th – Mennonite Heritage Museum
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. over five days, with three extra hours on Thursday at the Clearbrook Road institution.

Mill Lake Christmas Market | November 15th, 16th, and 22nd | Mill Lake Church, 33218 Marshall Road
It’s the first-ever Christmas event for the Marshall Road church. Admission is free and features 30 vendors, and proceeds from a raffle will aid the Mill Lake Community Cupboard.

Five Acres Holiday Wreath Workshops – November 16th – December 7th – Five Acres Flower Farm
Learn how to make one-of-a-kind wreaths with premium, long-lasting ingredients that will stay robust all season. All skill levels are welcome. Purchases include supplies and festive snacks complemented with mulled cider and hot chocolate.

The Enchanted North Pole – November 16th – December 25th – H & A Ross Farm
Jingle Bell hayrides, Santa’s Workshop, and a Christmas market are featured in this rural Abbotsford experience. Local vendors will have gifts and seasonal treats, and areas hosting Christmas movies and a cozy fire pit will also be attractions.

Holiday Movie Night – November 27th, December 4th, 11th, and 18th – Old Yale Brewing
Movie nights on four Wednesdays will take place at both OYB locations in Abbotsford and Chilliwack. They feature festive brews and holiday cocktails, with showtime at 7 p.m. each night.

“Parfumerie” Play by Gallery 7 Theatre – December 13th – 21st – Matsqui Centennial Auditorium
The holiday play is set in 1937 Budapest, Hungary, following a parfumerie worker who is fired after being mistakenly accused of having an affair with the boss’s wife. The two-hour production for ages 14 and up will have evening shows on Dec. 13 and 14 and will run from Dec. 17 to 21, with start times at 7:30 p.m. Two matinees will take place on Dec. 14 and 21 at 2 p.m.
